Volkswagen Golf TDI Diesel Hybrid Revealed
Volkswagen recently showed off their Golf TDI diesel-hybrid concept car at the Geneva Auto Show. There are two reports on what kind of gas mileage this car may have but both numbers, 69.9 MPG and 81.3 MPG are astonishing and if it is released will give the Prius a serious run for its money. This diesel hybrid has a 74 horsepower TDI engine mated to a 27 horsepower electric motor and a seven speed transmission. The battery resides in the trunk and the regenerative braking system will help keep it charged. The vehicle is a full hybrid and is capable of full electric mode at low speed. Similar to the Toyota Hybrids with navigation, the Golf hybrid will sport a dashboard LCD that will show you what the powertrain is doing in real time. While this car is only a concept at this point, there is speculation that these will be available in Europe late next year. If this is true I would think there would be a good chance that the US will also get this as there is a demand for fuel efficient cars.

I hope this car makes it to the US. I have always liked these cars, and on that gets 70 MPG would be really cool. I wonder what the base price will be?
