37 MPG Nissan Cube Hybrid is making its way to the US
Nissan announced that it plans to release a 37 MPG Nissan Cube hybrid car at the end of 2008 or early 2009. The Nissan cube has been sold in Japan for ten years and they have finally decided to release it in the US in a hybrid variant. This car will likely have a 1.8 liter gasoline engine driving the front wheels and electric-assist driving the rear. Expect about 90 horsepower. 90 HP may not seem like much, but the Cube weighs only 2,530 pounds. According to wired.com. the Cube is about one foot shorter than a Mazda Miata but because it is a cube, it has more interior space than a Mercedes S Class. Also included is Nissan’s e-4wd where if the front wheels start to spin power will transfer to the rear wheels. Expect a base price of $13,821, which as of now would be the cheapest hybrid on the market.

Is it just me or does this car look remarkably like the Scion xB?

You would think that with the size of this car, coupled with hybrid technology that you should get way better then 37 MPG.

Just slightly under 14k…that is cheap! I just cant quite grasp that it only gets 37/gal. For being a hybrid…that’s not too impressive
