Toyota: “Today we have no plans to introduce a diesel hybrid.”

While many automakers are in the process of developing and testing diesel hybrids vehicles, Toyota has no plans of using this technology for passenger cars. President of Toyota, Katsuaki Watanabe says they’re too expensive to be a viable option. Watanabe says mating a diesel engine to electric motors would create a very expensive vehicle. Watanabe goes on to say, “Technologically, a passenger car with a diesel hybrid is feasible for us since we already have a truck in Japan with a diesel hybrid. But a diesel hybrid car would cost more than a gasoline hybrid,”. He goes on to say. “Today we have no plans to introduce a diesel hybrid.” Maybe they have been down this road before and they know something the other car companies don’t know?
