What Can Brown Do For You? Go Green

UPS recently placed an order for 200 hybrid vehicles and another 300 Compressed Natural Gas Vehicles. UPS has the largest private fleet of alternative fuel vehicles and with this purchase puts them at 2,128 low emission vehicles. Currently they have 50 hybrid delivery trucks, and the additional 200 should hit the road in 2009. These trucks are expected to save 176,000 gallons of fuel annually and reduce CO2 emissions by over 1,700 tons! The 300 Natural Gas vehicles will go into production later this year.

If they keep going in this direction they may need to change their slogan to “What can green do for you?”

  1. This latest move by UPS is commendable. However, the environmental community has been clamoring for years for them to clean up their act. I suspect that the big initiative which FedEx announced 5 years ago had an impact, too.

  2. Nice. If every transport based company starts to go green we could save tons of petroleum and keep the world greener at the same time. Kudos.
