Honda’s New Hybrid to Launch in April 2009
Honda announced it will be releasing its new 5-door hatchback hybrid on April 22, 2009 which is Earth Day. While fuel economy numbers have not been released released they expect the new hybrid to compete with the Civic Hybrid and Toyota Prius and cost less. The Civic hybrid starts at $22,600, while the Prius has a base price of $21,500. Honda says they are trying to make hybrid cars
“We’re targeting sales of 100,000 units of this new vehicle in North America,” and “Honda wants to make the hybrid affordable to a new generation of buyers” said Dick Colliver, Executive VP of Sales and Marketing for American Honda Motor Co.
Honda also announced that a new hybrid version of its Fit subcompact is in the works, but hasn’t said if it will be sold in North America.

This is great. A reliable car manufacturer churning out more hybrids! And yes, this is certainly the right direction — affordable green cars.

That would certainly be something to look forward to. I have always been fond of Honda cars for their flexibility and durability and affordability. Hope to see this one soon.

I’m really looking forward to this one coming out. My parents are absolute Honda fanatics and I might be able to score their hybrid civic.

$22k? That is a very competing price. Too bad hybrid cars in europe are so expensive. at least here in portugal…..

I’ve been thinking of buying a smart car but the more I read about the hybrids the more I think that a hybrid might actually be a better choice for me. Thanks for the info.

My 1997 Honda Accord is still going strong. I’m pretty sure that I want a Honda Hybrid when the Accord finally quits. If it quits! It looks great, it’s paid off, and it still gets me 28 miles to the gallon. I’ll probably die before it does. Haha
