Thailand Spas Reviewed-Cheeva Spa

This review was done on July 10, 2010, of the Cheeva Spa. The Cheeva Spa has been in Chiang Mai for a number of years but about six months ago they moved into a brand new building that is quite a lot larger and more elegant. The new facility is quite nice with a garden and separate buildings with additional treatment rooms.

The spa experience began nicely with a pleasant greeting from a cheerful receptionist. She assisted me with a choice from the menu. They offer a variety of massages and body treatments, I chose the one hour Hot Oil massage. They use jojoba for their massage oil. Jojoba happens to be my favorite for both receiving and giving massage. It is very close in chemical structure to our own sebum and this makes it a wonderful rejuvenator for hair and skin.

The Cheeva begins its treatments with a floral milk foot bath. This is followed by a short salt scrub for the feet. I was then taken to one of the adjacent buildings with a large treatment room. There were two massage tables and a rather large bath tub. It seems all the decor and equipment is new.

The woman doing the massage was named Daeng, and she said she had been doing massage for six years. Her was massage was really good. Tempo and rhythm are important qualities in any good massage and hers was right on. Her pressure was also just right, occasionally getting close to my upper limits of comfort but never exceeding it.

Following the massage I was given some warm ginger tea while I basked in my pleasant state of relaxation.

The one hour Hot Oil Massage is normally 900 THB however they are now running an opening promotion with 20% off all treatments. You should call first to confirm that in the future. All in all this was a very nice spa experience with a good massage at an excellent price.

The Cheeva is convenient to the center of town, has good prices, and good service. I recommend it.
